Towards a stress criterion of injury--an example in caudocephalad acceleration.

چکیده
The usual specification of acceleration (in number of g’s) as the injury criterion in the biodynamic response of the human body to vibration and/or shock is quite misleading if not invalid. An injury criterion based on stress (or strain) is proposed and shown to have the potential of deciding where, w/ten and how injury is sustained. An example in pilot ejection is used for illustration.

Spiral length design
On the circular curve, lateral acceleration affects comfort. On the spiral, both lateral acceleration and jerk affect comfort. The determination of maximum curving speed on the basis of lateral acceleration only is not critical because the lateral acceleration is proportional to the square of speed whereas jerk is proportional to cubic power of speed. The maximum speed on a curve is thus signi...
متن کاملKleiven 1 A PARAMETRIC STUDY OF ENERGY ABSORBING FOAMS FOR HEAD INJURY PREVENTION
This paper describes a parametric study of foam material properties for interior car surfaces using finite element calculations. Two different head models were used for the impact simulations, a Hybrid III dummy head and a biomechanical head model. The objective was to study the head injury criterion (dummy) (HIC(d)), the angular velocity, the resultant acceleration and, for the human head mode...
متن کاملThe Effect of Ultrasound on Acceleration of Peripheral Nerve Injury
Background: Many people suffer from nerve injury. The time consuming nature of the treatments makes the condition worse. Therefore, finding a way to accelerate the process of nerve repair is very important. Objective: To determine the effect of ultrasound on the acceleration of crushed peripheral nerve regeneration. Methods: The experimental model included crushed rat’s sciatic nerve. 40 rats w...
متن کاملOptimum Constant-stress Partially Accelerated Life Tests for the Truncated Logistic Distribution under Time Constraint
This paper presents an optimum design of constant-stress partially accelerated life test (PALT) plan in which each item runs either at use or accelerated condition and product life follows Truncated Logistic distribution truncated at point zero under type-I censoring. Truncated distributions arise when sample selection is not possible in some sub-region of sample space. The optimal sample propo...
متن کاملDAMAGE IDENTIFICATION IN STRUCTURES USING TIME DOMAIN RESPONSES BASED ON DIFFERENTIAL EVOLUTION ALGORITHM
An effective method utilizing the differential evolution algorithm (DEA) as an optimisation solver is suggested here to detect the location and extent of single and multiple damages in structural systems using time domain response method. Changes in acceleration response of structure are considered as a criterion for damage occurrence. The acceleration of structures is obtained using Newmark me...
